Tacoma police, animal control, and a specialized marine unit launched a major rescue operation after discovering over 30 cats and kittens living aboard an abandoned boat near Owen Beach in Tacoma, Washington.
Rescuers found the animals trapped in unsafe, unsanitary conditions, with many appearing frightened and malnourished. After obtaining a search warrant, teams safely removed the cats and transferred them to The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County for medical treatment and care.
Because several cats remained hidden within the vessel, crews left emergency food and water onboard while coordinating follow-up recovery efforts to safely retrieve the rest.
