Luigi Mangione Pleads Guilty in Federal Brian Thompson Case

In a dramatic development, Luigi Mangione officially pleaded guilty in federal court to two charges of stalking resulting in the tragic death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

During Friday’s high stakes court hearing, Mangione formally admitted that he tracked and stalked Thompson before ultimately shooting him outside a Manhattan hotel on December 4, 2024, resolving the high profile federal proceedings against him.

While this momentous guilty plea brings the federal case to an official conclusion, Mangione’s legal ordeal remains far from complete. He continues to face a separate, serious state level murder prosecution within the New York legal system.

His official federal sentencing has been formally set by the court for December 18, while the highly anticipated New York state murder trial is currently scheduled to commence on September 8.

This critical courtroom admission marks a major turning point in a complex legal saga that has captured intense national interest and widespread media coverage ever since the initial corporate executive shooting occurred.

As the federal proceedings draw toward sentencing, all eyes now turn to the state court system, where Mangione must face the remaining state murder charges in the months ahead.
