From the icy Wall of Westeros straight to the magical halls of Hogwarts! Kit Harington has officially signed on for a drastically different kind of television role, joining Season 2 of HBO's hit Harry Potter television series as the charmingly vain defense professor, Gilderoy Lockhart.
The former Game of Thrones superstar steps into the glamorous role after actor Nicholas Hoult was forced to depart the project due to sudden scheduling conflicts. Interestingly, Harington is already intimately familiar with the charismatic fraudster's character quirks, having previously voiced Lockhart in the star studded, full cast Harry Potter audiobook production.
This high profile HBO casting will mark the first time audiences get to witness his live action performance as the notoriously arrogant, spell struck Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher on screen.
The show's second season will officially adapt J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, bringing Lockhart’s hilarious, self obsessed antics back to television in a fresh adaptation. Seeing Jon Snow swap his dark sword for a dazzling smile and sparkly robes is an unexpected casting twist fans never knew they needed.
