How a Photographer Fits the Moon in His Car Trunk

Civil engineer turned viral photographer Daniel Antoniol from Cataguases, Brazil, creates mind-bending images that make the full moon look like a giant prop you can stuff into a car trunk or hold in your hands.

His journey with moon photography took off during the pandemic after returning to his hometown. Rather than relying on heavy digital manipulation, Antoniol uses a precise shot-overlay technique—blending two real exposures into a seamless composite.

Working completely solo, he sets up his camera on a tripod, uses a timer, and monitors his positioning in real-time through his phone screen's mirror reflection. The result is a series of astonishing optical illusions that bring our giant celestial neighbor down to Earth.
