As his artistic taste evolved throughout middle school, Akutami found further inspiration in the intricate power systems of Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter × Hunter alongside the dark psychological themes of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Akutami specifically noted that observing how Evangelion masterfully integrated Judeo Christian mythology into its futuristic narrative motivated him to carve out his own distinct thematic direction. Rather than following Western motifs, he chose to deeply weave rich Buddhist concepts, esoteric folklore, and traditional cursed mythology directly into the framework of his own narrative world.
