“Game of Thrones”: Russian Plumbing Brand Makes Contestants Drink From Toilets for Cash

A Russian plumbing brand took viral marketing to an uncomfortable extreme. EvaGold hosted a "Game of Thrones" contest at a home improvement store in Stavropol, offering a 100,000-ruble prize (roughly $1,270) to anyone willing to brave two toilet-themed challenges.

The first round forced participants to race each other by drinking non-alcoholic sparkling wine out of brand-new, uninstalled toilet bowls using long straws. The fastest contestants from each group advanced to the second stage: an endurance test where they had to sit on closed toilet seats for as long as humanly possible. Ten hours into the competition, five relentless contestants were still seated, though the ultimate winner remains unclear.

Videos of the stunt quickly went viral, drawing widespread backlash online. Many viewers condemned the spectacle as deeply degrading, while locals argued it embarrassed the city. Organizers defended the event by insisting the brand-new toilets were completely hygienic, but critics were far from convinced.
