An innovative eco-friendly funeral concept called Capsula Mundi offers a green alternative to traditional burials by transforming final resting places into living trees.
Conceived by Italian designers Anna Citelli and Raoul Bretzel, the biodegradable pod naturally breaks down in the soil over time. Instead of relying on a conventional headstone, a tree planted directly above the pod grows into a lasting memorial.
Advocates highlight that this sustainable approach drastically reduces the environmental footprint of burials while shifting cemeteries toward serene, tree-filled memorial forests.
