Brazilian grandfather João Stanganelli Jr., who lives with the skin condition vitiligo, is using his artistic crochet skills to create beautiful handmade dolls featuring vitiligo patches. His uplifting creations are designed to ensure that young children with unique physical traits feel truly seen, validated, and confident in their own skin.
Joãos heartwarming journey originally began when he crocheted a special doll for his granddaughter as a meaningful, personal keepsake.
Inspired by the joy it brought her, he expanded his craft to produce an entire line of inclusive toys, including dolls depicting various skin conditions, wheelchair users, visual impairments, and other unique physical characteristics.
By intentionally building diverse, authentic features into everyday childrens toys, João hopes to teach the younger generation that physical differences do not diminish a persons beauty, worth, or dignity.
