Beijing Court Rules Online Gaming Accounts Can Be Inherited

In a landmark legal decision, a Beijing court has officially ruled that the right to use online gaming accounts can be inherited following a player's death.

The case centered on a deceased 36-year-old gamer who had accumulated 87 gaming accounts and valuable digital assets over a decade. When his mother requested the accounts be transferred to her, game developer Changyou initially declined, pointing to its standard user agreement.

However, the court determined that the right to use these accounts possesses distinct economic value due to the substantial time and money invested, ultimately ordering the real-name registrations transferred to his mother.
