Usain Bolt’s 1,000-McNugget Diet at the 2008 Beijing Olympics
In his autobiography, legendary sprinter Usain Bolt revealed that he ate nothing but McDonald's Chicken McNuggets during his 10-day stay at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. After local food upset his stomach during training camp, Bolt decided nuggets were the only meal he could trust. He averaged 100 nuggets a day—about 47,000 calories total—eating them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Despite this highly unconventional diet, Bolt went on to shatter world records in both the 100m (9.69 seconds) and 200m (19.30 seconds) sprints, taking home historic gold medals. He later joked that he deserved an extra medal just for eating so many nuggets.
When Bolt returned to Beijing for the 2015 World Championships, he noted that the catering had improved significantly, allowing him to finally skip the golden arches.
