Tech Millionaire Builds Tiny Home Village, Sparks Housing Debate

After selling his company Radian6 for over $436 million, Marcel LeBrun and his wife Sheila invested $4.5 million to build 12 Neighbours, a tiny-home village in Fredericton, Canada. The community features 96 fully equipped micro-homes, with rent capped at 30% of income (averaging $200 monthly, utilities included). The site also offers job training, a café, and an on-site manufacturing workshop.

Despite its success, the project has drawn critique. Warren Maddox of Fredericton Homeless Shelters suggested capping the village at 50 homes, arguing that consolidating vulnerable populations in one area can create stigma and hinder recovery. Additionally, with over 8,000 people on New Brunswick's housing waitlist, critics note that while the project is a noble effort, broader systemic solutions are still desperately needed.
