After seven years and 281 deployments, Chungseong, a heroic Belgian Malinois with Busan's 119 Special Response Unit, has officially retired. During a ceremony on July 1, the 11-year-old canine—who saved 16 lives—was honored by his unit before heading to his new adoptive home.
Chungseong’s active service began in April 2019. Throughout his career, he responded to major national disasters, including the 2022 Gwangju apartment collapse and the 2025 Ulsan power plant collapse. A highly decorated savior, he also won South Korea's National 119 Rescue Dog Competition twice.
At his send-off, firefighters replaced his rescue vest with a flower garland. Handlers and his new family gathered to celebrate his incredible legacy, wishing him a peaceful, well-earned rest as he transitions to a quiet countryside home.
