Berlin-based Italian photographer Chantal Pinzi is capturing women skateboarders globally in her powerful visual series, "Shred the Patriarchy." Her work frames skateboarding as far more than a sport, depicting it as an act of resistance against direct sexism, misogyny, and rigid societal expectations.
Her images capture the grit, defiance, and sisterhood of women who face serious personal or cultural backlash for skating. Highlights include India's Asha Gond defying her family's expectations, Moroccan women asserting their presence in public spaces, and Ethiopian girls building their own skate communities.
The celebrated project has earned major international acclaim, winning first place at the 2025 Sony World Photography Awards and a 2026 World Press Photo award, alongside a prestigious exhibition at London's Somerset House.
