To celebrate the franchise's landmark 35th anniversary, SEGA has announced a brand-new, standalone 10-minute animated short titled Sonic the Hedgehog: Memories and Beyond. Revealed at Anime Expo 2026, the project is scheduled to debut in fall 2026, with updates being tracked on the Sonic 35th Anniversary Hub.
The plot features Dr. Eggman hatching a scheme to upgrade Metal Sonic into the ultimate weapon by stealing Sonic's life-data and harnessing the power of the Chaos Emeralds. To defeat his metallic double, Sonic must rely on the strength of the bonds he has forged over 35 years of adventures.
Produced by the creative team behind the acclaimed Sonic x Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings shorts, the panel showcase featured key Sonic Team members, including Takashi Iizuka and Tyson Hesse, promising the same high-quality, action-packed art style fans adore.
