Barrister Rodiyah Omotoyosi Mikhail has made history as Nigeria's first known lawyer to wear the niqab during her Call to the Bar ceremony in Abuja. Photos of her wearing the traditional wig and gown over her face veil quickly went viral.
Her achievement builds directly on the 2017 legal battle won by Firdaus Amasa, who secured the right for Muslim women to wear the hijab during legal ceremonies. Mikhail has now pushed those boundaries even further by introducing the full face veil into the legal profession's most formal setting.
