McDonald’s Japan Imposes Strict New Limits on Custom Food Orders

McDonald's Japan has introduced strict new limits on custom orders, according to printed notices appearing in several locations. Customers can no longer ask to slightly increase or decrease ingredients—meaning requests for "less ice," "extra sauce," or "more salt on fries" are officially banned.

However, complete exclusions are still permitted. Customers can still order a burger with no sauce or pickles, fries with no salt, or a drink with no ice. While McDonald's corporate has not released an official statement, many speculate the decision is aimed at maintaining product consistency and speeding up counter service.

The move has surprised many customers, especially since Japan’s fast-food industry is typically celebrated for its flexibility and accommodating customer service. It remains to be seen how the public will adapt or if corporate will clarify the sudden policy shift.
