Guest Sues Airbnb Host After Ring Camera Photo of Another Woman Sent to Wife

A lawsuit filed by guest Shawn Mackey alleges an extreme escalation after a 2022 Memphis Airbnb stay. After Mackey disputed a $960 rule-violation fee and left a negative review, "Superhost" Pamela Fohler allegedly retaliated. The suit claims Fohler texted Mackey a doorbell camera photo of him with another woman, asking if she should send it to his wife, and later did so via a fake email sent to the wife's workplace. 

Mackey is suing both Fohler and Airbnb for invasion of privacy and emotional distress, stating his marriage suffered. While these remain allegations in an ongoing case and Fohler has moved to dismiss, the internet is fiercely divided. Some argue Mackey brought the consequences on himself, while others believe weaponizing security camera footage over an unfavorable review is a massive breach of privacy.
