Giant "Dragon Maid" Anime Mural Created in Japanese Rice Field
Around 300 fans joined an annual rice-planting event in Koshigaya, Japan—the real-world inspiration for "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid"—to plant a massive, detailed mural of characters Tohru and Kanna.
The clever technique uses various rice varieties with different leaf colors planted in a precise, pixel-art pattern. As the crops grow and mature, the details of the anime characters sharpen, creating a vibrant, living masterpiece.
The display is expected to peak from late July through mid-August. Visitors can get a panoramic view of the spectacular crop art from the nearby 80-meter-tall Reuse Observation Tower. This creative tradition has featured other iconic anime in the past, including "City Hunter," making the region a popular pilgrimage spot for pop-culture enthusiasts.
