Qinhu Bay Forest Animal Kingdom in Taizhou, China, is facing backlash after dyeing Chow Chow dogs orange with black stripes to pass them off as tigers. The disguise quickly unravelled when visitors noticed the "tigers" barking, panting, and wagging their tails.
This isn't the park's first viral stunt—in 2024, the same zoo painted Chow Chows black and white to market them as "panda dogs."
While zoo officials defended the display as a harmless marketing strategy using safe dyes, animal welfare advocates and veterinarians have criticized the practice. Experts warn that fur dyes can cause skin irritation and unnecessary stress for animals, sparking a global debate over ethics versus entertainment in public exhibits.
