10-Year-Old Terminally Ill Girl Fulfills Final Wish to "Marry" Best Friend

In a touching story of love and community support, 10-year-old Emma Edwards fulfilled her final wish of having a symbolic wedding with her childhood best friend, DJ, before passing away from leukemia.

Emma was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in April 2022. After a brave fight, doctors delivered devastating news in June 2023, revealing she had only days left to live. Emma’s dream was simple: to marry DJ, her best friend since kindergarten.

In under 48 hours, her North Carolina community rallied to organize a garden ceremony at her grandmother's home. Surrounded by nearly 100 loved ones, medical staff, and classmates, Emma wore a lavender dress as her father walked her down the aisle. The beautiful celebration brought her genuine joy and comfort before she peacefully passed away 12 days later.
